MEDIA PAPER 2 LEARNER RESPONSE
1) Type up your feedback in full (you do not need to write mark/grade if you do not wish to).
WWW: Good coverage of the Gentlewoman.
EBI: More analysis of the content of GQ, incorporate named theorists like van Zoonen, show you understand the difference in regulation of PSB
- Yes
3) Write a question-by-question analysis of your performance. For each question, write how many marks you got from the number available and identify any points that you missed by carefully studying the AQA indicative content in the mark scheme:
1) 5/9: cover both concepts in the mark scheme, the minimal style of the cover – in contrast to other magazines – places it as an alternative, independent publication form of deconstruction, the fluidity of gender – playing with signifiers of masculinity and femininity draws on contemporary codes, debates and issues.
2) 7/25: show you understand the difference in regulation of PSB, As a public service broadcaster, the BBC can be seen as exemplifying the argument that the media has to be regulated (in this case by Ofcom) in order to protect the public interest, As a prestige production, Capital is positioned in contrast to more superficial pleasures provided by private or commercial channels.
3) 15/25: incorporate named theorists like van Zoonen, the third-person, open-world nature of the game play could be used to analyse how the player receives the representations and to consider the power relations between play and producer. The representations in the game have referred to contemporary debates and controversies around Black and Native American representations – which might suggest that the producers are using contexts to convey values and beliefs.
4) 14/25: The nature of representations in print magazines and the extent to which they can be understood as targeting a specialised – or otherwise – audience, Additional industry strategies which are used to target audiences such as a multi-platform experience.
4) Look at question 4 - the synoptic question. How many of the four key concepts did you cover in your answer? Write a new essay plan for this question using the indicative content in the mark scheme and taking care to include at least three of Language - Representations - Audience - Industries. You can use bullet points but make sure you offer enough content to meet the criteria for Level 5 (top level). This will be somewhere between 3-4 well-developed paragraphs planned in some detail.
P: agree
