- The article talks about the dystopian representation of capitalist society in the hunger games.

2) What view of capitalist ideology is presented in the Hunger Games films?

- In “The Capitol” every district is poor where people struggle to survive whilst doing hard labour. Children aged 11-18 will partake in the Hunger Games to fight for survival. These games keep the district under control and in line.


3) What do the Hunger Games films suggest about the power of the media to shape and influence ideological beliefs?


- Suggests that the media can inspire people to unify their principles and beliefs which can have an impact on how institutions are portrayed.

- Good should overcome evil
- Law is better than disorder
- Pleasure is a goal in life

2) What does Gramsci's theory of hegemony suggest about power and ideology in society?

- Gramsci argues that the power of ideology derived from ideas and structures which support an elite social group which is able to dominate through ideas.

3) What does French theorist Louis Althusser suggest about ideology and consumerism?

- His view is that ideology is the greatest material power and dominant our day to day lives through repressive state apparatuses and ideological state apparatus.

4) Do YOU agree with the idea behind They Live - that we are unthinkingly controlled by the media which is run in the interests of the economic elite? These are the big questions of A Level Media!

- I don’t think that we are unthinkably controlled by the media. I believe that we have control on what makes sense to believe and what do want, we should be able to tell the difference.
